Balrogs can mean SERIOUS pain. They are very big, and very strong. Add to that their fire-based attack, and your ass will be toast in a few seconds if you aren't careful. They do look pretty damn cool, though. Sort of a Gargoyle on steroids. :)
A Rouge should, obviously, use her bow to take these guys out from a distance. Fortunately, Balrog's attacks don't have much distance on them, meaning that you can pluck away at them, and they won't be able to return the favor immediatly. Sorcerers should use every lightning-based attack that they have, and throw in Stone Curse if they get too close. Go ahead and forget Guardian with these guys; remember, immunity to fire. A Warrior should pray that he has a Sorcerer or Rouge in his group. :)

* Um, I'm pretty sure that this isn't right. I'm gonna do some hunting around for the correct number, but until I do, this one remains.
