When was the last time you were sitting in traffic, the light turned green, and the person/people in front of you just sat there? How about when you're going grocery shopping and somebody just randomly stops in the middle of a busy aisle and blocks three people who need to get through? Even better, you're at the mall and nobody seems to realize that they're moving at an average speed which a snail would laugh at and moving in a group that's about twenty feet across to include all family members. That one sound familiar too?
We've all had to deal with these people, the majority of those out there are these kinds of people. The ones who don't give a crap for the well-being of others, the ones who happen to be oblivious to their surroundings to the point of them lacking basic survival abilities, the ones who you could swear would be picked off and eaten by wild animals if civilization collapsed tomorrow.
For those of you who know me this probably seems like me just getting fed up with people being slower than myself, people bothering with stuff I don't care about and didn't ask them about, etc. Normally I'd agree, but for the past month and a half I've had a different perspective on this whole thing. I managed to break my leg and had to have surgery and was on crutches for six weeks. During that time I still went to the mall, the bank, etc. when I could grab somebody to take me since I wasn't able to drive. I found out a fairly major thing about people during that time, they're still oblivious.
Now I don't know about you, but if I see somebody going along with two large wooden crutches supporting them I'm going to either move to the side or hold the door for them if they want the help, etc. If they don't want any help, more power to them and I'll let them do stuff by themselves. So of course now that I'm on crutches I'm going to expect people to try and help me and I get to shrug them while telling them that I'd prefer to do things on my own. You know, people at least noticing and attempting to be kind. Nope, didn't happen.
Hell, rude people I could've at least gotten upset with. Somebody cuts you off of purpose getting into an elevator because they can or a person tripping you to get to the door of a store first, that kind of thing (don't laugh, I've seen it happen before). Oblivious people on the other hand, sheesh. They don't realize they just shut the door on your crutch, they don't realize that they've almost tripped you up by going at their slower-than-a-snail pace through the mall, they don't realize that when you reply to "What happened?" with "I broke my leg" that you've gotten a bit tired of the question and they should stop there.
It's rather pathetic when a person on crutches can outpace every single person at a shopping mall or inside a school but have to hold themselves back because somebody doesn't know their surroundings and suddenly stops in the middle of a store. Of course, that happened several times in the process of going to the mall just once. I'm surprised you don't see people bumping into posts, mailboxes, etc. walking down the street. I'm surprised there aren't more car crashes because people don't know if there's a car to their right or left just by paying attention to what's going on around them.
In other words: PAY ATTENTION!
