Hungary is an Eastern European country, bordering Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Yugoslovia, Romania, and the Ukraine. The population is 10 million, with 2 million people in the capital city of Budapest. It is a democratic republic, with the current President being Árpád Göncz, and the prime minister is Viktor Orban.

The countries' complete area is 93,030 square kilometers, which equals 35,910 square miles. It has a continental climate, with temperatures in the winter being around the high 20s to the mid 30s. The name of the country is Magyarország in Hungarian. The major rivers are Duna (Danube in English), Tisza, Dráva, and Rába. The highest point is Kékes, which is 1015 meters (3330 feet) above sea level.

The country is divided up into 19 different counties. The major religions are Roman Catholic (56%) and Reform Catholic (22%). The national flag is red, white, and green horizontal stripes, all of equal size.
