This is your basic testosterone action, bare-bones action movie. In fact, I can sum the plot up in a few sentences.
The main character, Dominic (Vin Diesel) is a street racing fanatic, and is hijacking shipments of cargo in semitrailers. Brian (Paul Walker) is an undercover cop, and also hooked on street racing. He is sent in to bust Dominic, but the two eventually bond, and begin to trust each other.
Probably the best scene in this movie is the first street racing scene, when Brian and Dominic first race. The sound, and the style of the filming at this part of the movie really capture the feeling of moving at 160 mph. Just when Brian had almost beat Dominic.... He looses. That's life.
Anyways, the movie itself is worth watching for the excellent racing scenes, but don't go in expecting a real deep story.
The movie is also hardly ever quiet. There is always music going on in the background. I believe the longest part that goes without music is the actual racing scene at the beginning.
Now, there are many features for this movie, but the more interesting ones are rather short, or could have used more commentary. For example, the "Movie Magic Interactive Special Effects" part, where they show the different palates used to create a stunt scene at the end of the movie was interesting, but could have used some commentary that could explain more about what I was watching.
However, for the final stunt, they had filmed it with 8 or so different cameras, which was very fun to watch, but also could have used more commentary.
The "Making of the Fast and the Furious" is also interesting to watch, as well. For example, the crowds of people during the racing scenes were actual people, not hired actors.

In conclusion, if you are a big fan of action movies, buy this one. Otherwise, rent it.
