Alright, I liked the first movie a lot. It was a really good spy movie, and stayed close to the style of the TV show. I saw ads for the sequel, and had my doubts. "Too much action, the MI series shouldn't have that." Well, that doesn't matter, this movie still kicks ass.
Now, I've talked to various people about this movie, and I've gotten different responses. One person in particular bitched and whined about how it is just another action movie, with slow motion scenes and explosions. He also said that John Woo (the director) should be shot. Bleh. John Woo is a damn good action director. His other movies, like Face/Off and Replacement Killers (I think thats the title) were damn good action movies.
The movie stars Tom Cruise returning to the role of Ethan Hunt, a spy-extrordinare with the IMF (Impossible Mission Force). He is assigned the mission of recovering/destroying the deadly ultra-virus Chimera. Ving Rhames also returns, again keeping Hunt's ass from being barbecued. Thandie Newton is a hottie. Er, I mean, is the love interest for Hunt. She is also the ex of the main bad guy, who is an ex-IMF agent, now trying to make billions of dollars off of the Chimera virus.
Plot summary: Hunt gets mission, Hunt nails girl, explosions, Hunt tracks down virus, yada yada yada, Hunt fights bad guy on motorcyles (cool scene), Hunt kicks ass. Voila, there is the movie. :)
Oh, just a word of warning about the movie: it has no social impact whatsoever. There are no big issues that are dealt with in the movies. There is no "deep" meaning to the movie (you could probably make a poor arguement for some kind of "good vs evil" meaning, but I sure as hell don't care). If you go to this movie actually expecting a deep social message, you should be shot. Its a friggin' action movie, people. Don't expect more than what it is.
