Protoss Overview

The Protoss are the most technologically advanced race in StarCraft. Many of their units, like Probes, Shuttles, and Reavers, are robots, while other units, like Dragoons, are robotically-enhanced. The Protoss are also very powerful when it comes to psi-oriented spells. Both the High Templar and Dark Archon cast several spells, all of which can, if use in the right circumstances, do much damage to enemy units.

Shields
Every single Protoss unit and building has shields, which can be very beneficial in battle. The shields don't draw from any extra energy source, and when deminished, they will slowly climb back up to full strength. These shields allow Protoss military units to keep fighting with out taking any actual permanent damage; that is, until the shields run out. Protoss units can have their shields instantly restored by going to a Shield Battery, though.

Warp Gates
This is a very helpful aspect of the Protoss. Instead of a probe staying in one place manufacturing a building, like the Terrans, or turning into a building, like the Zerg, a Probe merely opens a warp gate. After this, the Probe can go about its buisiness, and the building will start to warp in. This is very helpful, as you can have all of your Probes mining, and only one Probe building your base.

Psionic Matrix
The Psionic Matrix is the limiting factor to the Protoss Warp Gates. Pylons that are built have a blue ring around them; in this ring is where you must build a building. Without a nearby Pylon, a building will stop working, as it won't have any power. Also, Pylons serve as the support for units, similar to Terran supply depots and Zerg Overlords.
