Rebellion

The Rebellion aims to overthrow the Bureau of Internal Investigation, the body which has almost absolute control over the Federation, and return power to the democratically-elected leaders. They are led by many people formerly of high standing in the Federation, including professors, CEOs, former Councillors, the former Chief of Staff of the Federation Navy, and the former director of the Federation's intelligence service. Their ships include upgraded versions of the civilian Lightning, Thunderhead, Valkryie, and Starbridge ships, destroyers and Viper light fighters stolen from the Federation, and Dragon class vessels supplied by the Polarans. The Rebel storyline usually begins as an offshoot of the Federation mission string, although there are other ways to enter it.

Strengths:

The Rebel Dragon is technologically superior to Federation and Pirate ships; its armour is capable of repairing itself inflight, and its varying weapons configurations include Polaran BioRelay lasers and long-ranged Auroran railguns.

Other Rebel ships are also reasonably upgraded beyond their civilian and Federation counterparts.

Most Federation citizens who have learned about the Rebellion beyond what the Bureau of Internal Investigation tells them support it, and the rebels have the support of many civilian intelligence operatives within the Federation.

Weaknesses:

The Rebellion has a small number of ships compared to the Federation Navy, and capital ships are less common than fighter- and light capital-class vessels.

The Rebellion only controls three ports, and one of them is blockaded by the Federation.
