Shipyard: Rebellion

The Rebels of Nova, much like their counterparts in the first EV, have to use heavily modified ships, such as the Viper (which is also used by the Feds, Pirates, and civillians). However, all of the ships have gotten impressive upgrades in shields and weaponry, and are just as dangerous as any other vessel out there.

Viper
Viper back to top
With the rapid development of space flight, it was inevitable that sports (particularly racing) would come to fruition sooner rather than later. Power Sled racing stood up to the challenge. A few intrepid hot-rodders noticed that one particular sled, the Viper, took very well to a bit of extra weight in the form of armor and armament. With a little engine tweaking, these modified Vipers, designated F-23, were selected by the Federation as the mainstay of their fighter wings. This Viper was appropriated from Federation stocks on an unnamed supply world.

Notes:
While not as fast as it's Federation counterpart, the Rebel Viper is stronger than the Fed or Pirate versions. The Light Gunboat variant is the strongest Viper available, being a quite capable dogfighter, while other variants are, more or less, blaster fodder.

Lightning
Lightning back to top
The unusual design of the Rautherion Lightning was destined to have its inner working probed by the famous ship designer Donald Chick. Due to the relative youth of the design, Donald has left it mostly untouched until the vehicles have had time to "shake down," preferring to augment rather than tweak. Thus it is that this machine is mostly as you'll find it off the production line, bar a few standard upgrades added to "round her out," as Donald puts it.

Notes:
Better than a Viper, the Lightning fits the role of "medium fighter", right between the Viper and the Thunderhead, quite well. It is very fast, and has a heavy enough armament to make it dangerous in small packs, and down right deadly when in larger groups consisting of multiple types of ships.

Thunderhead
Thunderhead back to top
Once more Donald Chick has taken out his toolkit and hydrospanners to churn out a masterpiece of adaptive engineering. The Rebel Thunderhead, another triumph, isn't far removed from its antecedents, but fixes a few of the more glaring defects. While the engines have remained relatively unchanged, the Rebel Thunderhead features greater armor and shield protection for many of the more vital systems, making it a more useful craft for decisive strikes.

Notes:
A great heavy fighter for the Rebels, without a doubt. Although not as fast as the overly-tweaked Pirate version, this Thunderhead packs a nice balance of power with range, between the standard Lances (great for close combat strafing runs) to Wraith Cannons and Radar Missiles for the longer range.

Thunderhead
Valkyrie back to top
Another of Donald Chick's efforts in starship redesign. In his younger days, Sir Donald had an old T7 model Valkyrie that he hotrodded in his spare time. Much of what went into that now legendary craft (the 'Lucalia' is still his personal ship) now provides the punch behind the next generation of Rebellion starships. The updated Valkyrie breathes new life into the design, adapting some of the micro-furnace technology from the Starbridge for its engines. Truly a triumph for Sir Donald and his crew.

Notes:
An excellent escort ship, and a very deadly opponent, beware IV and V class Valks. The fact that I usually see these ships escorting other powerful ships, and rarely on their own, adds to their strength. Class V Valks are especially dangerous, as they are perfectly happy hanging back and firing their railguns and hellhounds at you or your enemy.

Starbridge
Starbridge back to top
As always, the controversial Starbridge finds service in areas other than its intended use in commerce. The excellent (if expensive) Starbridge design has been adapted to the needs of the Rebellion by Donald Chick, ex-CEO of Sigma Shipyards. It has been decades since Sir Donald has put his hand to a set of hydrospanners, but he has taken his small team of craftsmen and churned out the best variant of the Starbridge yet.

Notes:
Same as the Valkyrie, these ships are deadly. Unlike the Valk, however, these ships prefer to go in for the kill rather than hang back and take out their foes. With as many blasters as they have (and railguns at higher classes), they can definetly finish a battle relatively quickly.

IDA Frigate
IDA Frigate back to top
The IDA Frigate was the mainstay of the Colonial Council line before the collapse of the Gate system, and instrumental in the defense of the core worlds against the Aurorans. These ships were made to last; the spaceframe itself is compartmental and component-based, and, like the Leviathan, it is virtually indestructible. Once Donald Chick got his hands on it, he retrofitted it to be a fairly lethal weapons platform capable of projecting a fair amount of firepower deep into enemy territory.

Notes:
The IDA Frigate is the Rebellion's attempt at bridging the gap between the Starbridge and the Destroyer. It's faster than the Destroyer, and is armed with mid-range weaponry (and a compliment of fighters). By no means a solo attack ship, these refitted Frigates are best used in small fleets with other types of ships.

Destroyer
Destroyer back to top
General 'Sundown' Smart has been pulling his hair out over the Rebellion's desperate lack of ships and manpower. He and Frandall recently had a breakthrough when they masterminded the theft of thirty E-41s from mothballs in orbit at the wreckers at Spacedock II. The ancient craft have proved difficult to improve, as such a large task is beyond Donald Chick and his small but dedicated group of shipwrights. They have had to be satisfied with gross tweaks to power output and shield strength, and have given the task of general refits to maintenance personnel.

Notes:
The Destroyer is the backbone of the Rebel Navy. Armed with both short-range and long-range weaponry, these vessels are forced to perform under any circumstances. As they are susceptable to attacks from many fighters, you will rarely find one without at least some other ship to help protect them.

Dragon
Dragon back to top
The Polaris have long been sympathetic to the Rebel cause, recognizing the essential rightness of their struggle. Thus the Nil'kemorya have made the Dragon design available to the Rebellion ship technicians for adaptation to their purposes. Many dangerous freight runs are required to haul the sludge tanks full of etheric wake biotech skin material through the frontier between Polaris and Rebel space, but the efforts of many fine free-trader captains have given the Rebellion a technical edge on the Federation... for now.

Notes:
If the Destroyer is the backbone of the Rebel Navy, the Dragon is the muscle. Much faster than any other destroyer-class warship, it is armed with a BioRelay laser, which can be used with deadly accuracy. Other variants throw in some longer range weapons, like Hellhounds or railguns. The Carrier can quickly swarm a lone enemy vessel, using it's laser to tear a hole in a ship, while it's Vipers distract it.
